WIRELESS TODAY Will Send Commercial Mes- sages from Morien to Ireland — Manager Vyvyan Injured Sydney, N. S. Oct 16 — Mr. Vy- vyan, the manager of the Marconi station at Port Morien, received in- juries today while experimenting in the operating room of the towers which will incapacitate him for work for some time. Mr. Vyvyan was standing by the side of an operator engaged in transmitting a message, when his hand was caught by a rap- idly revolving wheel, seriously crush- ing the member. The manager was immediately removed to his home, where the wound was dressed by a physician. It is said that by reas- on of the accident Mr. Vyvyan will be unable to perform his duties in connection with the station for some time, and that he will be unable to take part in the formal opening set down for tomorrow. Mr. Marconi, when seen tonight, declared everything to be in first class shape for tomorrow's event. The transmitting instruments are working perfrectly, while the station at Clifden, Ireland, is apparently fully prepared for its part in the pro- gramme. The inventor is in the best of spirits tonight and expresses himself as being confident of tomor- row's experiment. Besides the per- sonal friends of Mr. Marconi now re- siding at the towers, there will be but four others present at the open- ing tomorrow, three of whom will be representatives of the Press. |
